THE MUSIC OF COLORS STRAIGHT UP
Five composers from different professional and ethnic backgrounds have collaborated to compose the original score of Colors Straight Up. Director Michele Ohayon wanted to combine African and Urban rhythms, as well as modern Latin music. The result is a rich and diverse score, and a soundtrack in the works.
John Barnes is a producer/arranger/musician who has played, composed and collaborated with Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Quincy Jones, Herb Alpert, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, The Pointer Sisters, Manhattan Transfer, Julio Iglesias, Jermaine Jackson, Janet Jackson, and the list goes on. John was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, and is now a very successful musician/composer.
Mino Cinelu is a master percussionist, composer, singer, producer and musician from France, who started his international career with Miles Davis. Mino worked with musicians such as Branford Marsalis, Lou Reed, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman and more. He also played percussions, accordion and flute on the music score album "Dead Man Walking". He currently released a new duet album Kenny Baron/Mino Cinelu "Swamp Sally".
Joseph Julian Gonzalez is highly accomplished in a variety of musical fields . Coming from a Mexican farm laboring family, he overcame many obstacles to graduate from UCLA and seek a career in music. His compositions have been performed by Linda Rondstadt, Freddy Fender, Flaco Jimenz, Los Lobos, Lalo Guerrero, Cheech Martin, Jose Feliciano, and the Kronos String Quartet. He has composed numerous movie scores for such as the HBO's The Eddie Matos Story, TNT 's The Cisco Kid, and currently the feature Curdled. Joseph is also an accomplished classical guitarist.
Robert Jerald was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, and joined the writing staff of Rondor music at the age of 19. His big break came when Jade recorded "Everyday Of The Week" for the Beverly Hills 90210 soundtrack. Robert co-wrote and co-produced the song which went on to be a top 20 pop single with Antonia Armato. Colors Straight Up is his first contribution to a film score.
The Jazzhole is "the coolest thing since US3 and the Brand New Heavies". A multi racial and ethnic band of 10, they released the hit song "And The Feeling Goes 'Round" on Bluemoon records. The New York genre jumping, boundary -breaking band helped pave the way for the acid/jazz hip hop sound. The Jazzhole is anchored by keyboardist Warren Rosenstein, guitarist John Pondel and vocalist Marlon Saunders.
